With over fifty years of experience, Officine Meccaniche Barni is a benchmark in the steel industry, thanks to engineering excellence and advanced design that generate solutions with high technological value.
At the heart of the business is the design and construction of custom special machines and plants: every project stems from a bespoke approach and a deep knowledge of industrial processes. From coil coating lines to degreasing systems and anodising plants, Barni develops technologies capable of guaranteeing high performance, production continuity and consistent quality.
Its ability to combine innovation and customisation is expressed in coil digital printing lines and in special machines designed to customer specification. The offering is completed by finishing lines for tubes and bars, engineered to ensure precision, operational efficiency and long-term reliability.
Our history
Barni was founded in 1969 in Morbegno (Sondrio) out of a deep passion for industrial mechanics. Initially specialised in the production of turned and milled parts for local companies, it evolved over the years thanks to a clear entrepreneurial vision that quickly led to an expansion of its skills and activities.
In 1990 it became Officine Meccaniche Barni Srl, establishing itself as a partner to Italy’s most qualified line manufacturers, supplying both complete plants and individual machines.
Over time the company grew, took on structure and opened up to international markets, becoming today a company able to manage complex projects, from concept study through to final testing.

The key milestones
From a local manufacturing business to a player with an international outlook: Barni’s path has been marked by constant evolution. In more than fifty years of activity, the company’s growth has been driven by its ability to design and build solid, innovative and reliable solutions for customers in Italy and on international markets.
1969
Giuseppe Barni starts the business in Morbegno, in the steel sector.
1990
The company becomes Officine Meccaniche Barni Srl, consolidating its role as a partner to Italy’s leading line manufacturers, supplying complete plants and individual machines.
2004-2015
Expansion of the production area from 4,000 to 10,000 m² under cover, organised into 3 units, and acquisition of a long-established engineering company.
2023
Officine Meccaniche Barni acquires Guida Impianti, a European leader in the design, construction and assembly of sheet metal cut-to-length lines.
2025
Officine Meccaniche Barni and Guida Impianti are acquired by the Comas Group, creating a steel industry hub built on synergies and strategic collaboration.
